The FIFA Fan Fest™ guests learned national sports traditions of the organizing country.
Despite the day off a FIFA Fan Fest™ venue at the embankment attracted hundreds of the football lovers starting from the Opening gates. Numerous fans of the Egypt and Saudi Arabia teams already arrived to Volgograd. A hot concert program and fascinating matches: England – Panama, Japan-Senegal, Poland – Columbia – were waiting for them there.
Famous sports history of our country, great victories and legendary persons are well-known, but not everyone knows what kinds of sports played our ancestors. Guests enjoyed playing Gorodki – a competition for accuracy and strength. They say that this amusement existed in times of Ivan the Terrible.
Lapta which is similar to the cricket or baseball had been played by many fans at school and now they could remind their skills at the venue. All together, Volgogradians and guests of the city learned more about traditional sports amusements – a dodgeball, a horses’ game and a Russian hockey. Way back in the Ancient Rus there was a game very close to football. It was needed to strike the net with a ball filled with clothes or hair. By the way, namely on June 24 a young guest of the FIFA Fan Fest™ got a modern soccer ball signed by the legendary player Eidur Gudjohnsen.
A bright entertaining program – rock groups and rap performers – created an inimitable mood at the entire venue of the FIFA Fan Fest™.
Tomorrow there will be a big football day for Volgograd – teams of Egypt and Saudi Arabia will combat at Volgograd Arena, and at the same time in Samara Russia will play with the team of Uruguay. We are waiting for the performance of the legendary rock group “Masha and the bears”. Come to the FIFA Fan Fest™ at the Central embankment, it will be hot there!
